The Lawton District Swim Team tore up the Cameron University Pool in their first meet of the season on November 3. Each of the three schools had multiple top-10 finishers and the district had 17 first-place finishes and three school records broken.
Eisenhower High School had student-athletes all over the top-10 finishers in the Elgin hosted meet. Liam Wallace (senior) took first place in the 200-meter individual medley and the 100m breaststroke. Dalton Sawyer (senior) also had a busy meet, finishing first in the 100m freestyle and the 100m backstroke, a race that he put up a school record time; his teammate Brayden Ratliff (sophomore) finished second in the backstroke. Addison Sawyer (senior) also had two first place finishes, the 500m freestyle and the 100 backstroke. Makayla Flenoury (senior) was runner-up in the 100m butterfly and fourth in the 100m backstroke, and Claire Kirby (freshman) also finished fourth in the 100m freestyle. EHS’s relay teams also had success at the meet as both the girls and boys placed first in the 200-medley relay and 400-freestyle relay with the boys’ team of Ratliff, Sawyer, Wallace, and Charles Hinton (freshman) setting school records in both events.
The Eagles were not the only of the city schools to dominate the meet. MacArthur High School also had athletes who had a strong debut to the season. Michael Gonzalez (senior) added the third record breaking performance of the meet, placing first in the 100m butterfly while also coming in first in the 50m freestyle. Rohan Mariano (freshman) also had two individual wins, taking first in the 200m freestyle and 500m freestyle. Daniel Saliba (senior) had two third place finishes in the 100m freestyle and the 100m breaststroke and Alex Weaver (senior) came in fourth in the 50m freestyle. Alyssa Rauscher (senior) led the MHS girls with wins in the 200m freestyle and the 100m breaststroke while her teammate Harleigh Strickland (junior) placed third in both the 200m and 500m freestyle. In the relays, the Highlander boys’ team of Gonzalez, Mariano, Saliba, and Weaver placed first in the 200-freestyle relay and second in the 200-medley relay. The girls’ team of Rauscher, Strickland, Emily Morales (sophomore), and Maddy Strickland (freshman) finished second in the 200-freestyle and third in the 400-freestyle relays.
Lawton High School was represented at the meet by Erice Thompson (junior) and Braedon Jackson (sophomore). Thompson finished fourth in the 100m butterfly and seventh in the 500m freestyle while Jackson came in fourth in the 100m backstroke and eighth in the 100m freestyle.
The LPS swim team has a full schedule of meets from November until February. Their next meet will be another Elgin hosted event at the Cameron University Pool on November 15, and then they will be in Edmond on November 17. You can find the full schedule on lawtonps.org/athletics or on rankone.com.
